it's a wonderful life:

the live radio drama

ADAPTED FOR THE STAGE BY TONY PALERMO
BASED ON THE ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SCREENPLAY

It’s a Wonderful Life: The Live Radio Drama is based on the classic holiday movie with a clever twist thrown in: the story is staged as a live radio broadcast. Actors portray numerous characters, and sound effects are done by a live Foley artist.
It’s a Wonderful Life tells the story of George Bailey, a generous and well-meaning man who has become too downcast and tired to continue living. It will take help from a lovable angel named Clara to show him what life would have looked like had he never been born; and for George to learn that no man is a failure who has friends
earning Clara her long awaited wings.

HERE'S WHAT OUR ARTISTIC DIRECTOR HAS TO SAY ABOUT THE PRODUCTION:

When I first programmed It’s a Wonderful Life: The Live Radio Drama ten years ago, there was no intention for it to become the highly anticipated annual production it’s now become. It was our audiences, who sold out every performance and clamored for more who (quite vocally through dozens of phone calls, countless emails and letters to the editor) that gave us pause for thought and inspired us to consider the idea that we too, much like The Citadel and Theatre Calgary with ‘A Christmas Carol’, should have a fun for the entire family, holiday tradition, to call our own.

It also gives us a chance to connect with our community in unique and exciting ways; most of the actors you see each year are not the Ignition professionals you might see in our other productions, but instead each cast is mostly comprised of volunteer members of the community making their stage debuts, alongside amateur actors from Central Alberta Theatre, lead annually by the incomparable Ryan Mattila in his signature role as ‘George Bailey’. Furthermore, rather than an online campaign or inviting our patrons to yet another silent auction, ‘Wonderful Life’ represents our sole fundraising efforts, inviting you to enjoy a magical, heartwarming show while contributing to Ignition’s success and sustainability.

By far our most popular production each and every season, this year we’ve expanded the cast size and scope of the production and will be presenting ‘Wonderful Life’ on the main stage at the Red Deer Memorial Centre for TWO NIGHTS ONLY the last weekend before Christmas; and this season we’re welcoming Improv Jelly! to join the fun, performing live commercials featuring local businesses!

Just like your Christmas shopping, don’t wait until the last minute to book your tickets; and remember, group rates ARE available and make for a
memorable Christmas party.
